Mission Statement: Helping Hands Outreach Center, a faith-based community service agency, exists to provide a safe, sober living environment for men in recovery from substance abuse and addiction and help them to discover and employ the tools necessary to live responsible and productive lives

History
Helping Hands Outreach Ministries, Inc. was founded in 1986 as an urban outreach program of Faith Christian Center of Bedford. We opened our first facility leasing space in the Saint Vincent DePaul building on Manchester Street. There we provided housing to the homeless, a food and clothing pantry and used furniture distribution. Over the years as the ministry grew, we realized that much of what we did was being done by others and we didn’t want to duplicate what could be found elsewhere. In 1991 Helping Hands purchased the former Saint Joseph’s School for Boys at 50 Lowell Street and began extensive renovations to convert the former school into temporary housing. It was also at this time that we began the process of becoming a private 501 (c) 3non-profit corporation.
Currently, Helping Hands Outreach Ministries has 2 residential locations that provide shelter, food, case management, volunteer opprtunities- job training, and a safe, sober enviroment while providing peer supports and a positive structure for those within the programs. The men learn self- sufficiency, accountability, and gain a new found confidence in recovery and in their lives.
